Welcome to Gardner School!
Dear Gardner Parents & Families,
I am honored to have been chosen to join Gardner Elementary School as your Principal. I look forward to getting to meet with and work with you all this upcoming school year. I am writing to you today simply to introduce myself, and share with you all some of my thoughts. This is not a formal, “Back to School Letter,” rather it is my way of reaching out to say hello!
Who Am I?
To begin, my name is Nick Overy, but I am typically referred to as “Mr. O.” I am extremely passionate about education and working with children! Over the past 10 years I have worked in Fall River, Somerset, and Swansea, with all grade levels, and in various roles. I have experience teaching, coaching, and as a school leader, most recently at Joseph Case Junior High School as the Assistant Principal. I am committed to the Swansea Public Schools, and more importantly, your son(s) & daughter(s).
Personally, I am a husband & a father of two girls, Olivia who is 6, and Emma who is almost 4. They bring an overwhelming amount of love and happiness to my life that I never knew could exist. They also can push boundaries and challenge me in many ways. They provide me with perspective, which I feel improves my ability to work with my staff and students.
What Are My Goals?
I want all of the students who attend Gardner Elementary to feel safe, cared for, love school, and to love learning. Most importantly, I want each child to believe in their ability to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Over the course of the school year, I hope to get to know each and every student and you as well!
What Do I Believe?
I share the district philosophy that “Students Come First.” I also believe children learn not only from what they are taught, but by what they see and hear. Thus, it is essential that we as adults model the behaviors, attitudes, and character traits we wish to see in our young ones. I assure you that each day I will model empathy, respect, and a joy for learning while working with the students at Gardner School.
I also believe in the value of a strong relationship between the school and home. Relationships are built on trust, respect, and communication. I will work diligently to earn your trust and respect, while maintaining open communication.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and time with your families!
